Is it safe to generate passwords in a browser?

Yes, with tools that use the Web Crypto API. Our password generator uses crypto.getRandomValues() — the same cryptographic standard used by browsers for TLS/HTTPS. The generated password exists only in your browser's memory, is never transmitted over the network, and is gone when you close the tab. Never use a password generator that sends data to a server.

How long should a secure password be?

Security researchers recommend at least 16 characters for important accounts. At 16 characters with mixed uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols, brute-force cracking becomes computationally infeasible with current hardware. For high-value accounts (banking, email, primary password manager), use 20+ characters.

Should I use a password manager with generated passwords?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Strong random passwords are impossible to memorize — that's intentional. Use a reputable password manager (Bitwarden, 1Password, KeePassXC) to store and autofill them. This way you only need to remember one strong master password while using unique, strong passwords for every account.
